Learning Without Limits

The board recognized Seaman Middle School and Seaman High School FBLA students for their state championships at the State FBLA Convention in Topeka. 

Wesley Eckert is the middle school state champion in Exploring Computer Science. This event consists of an objective test that assess knowledge of: problem solving, algorithms and programs, logical reasoning, basic coding, manipulation and analyzing data using digital tools, abstraction, pattern recognition, and decomposition.

Matthew McConnaughey is the middle school state champion in Exploring Technology. This event consists of an objective test that assess knowledge of: computer literacy, evolving technologies, basic concepts in hardware, software, and connectivity, impacts on society, website design, file management, ergonomics, popup blockers, networks, and spam filters.  

Anson Appelhanz and Justin Kruse are high school state champions in Business Ethics. Anson was also a state champion in Business Law. Business Ethics allows students to demonstrate the ability to present solutions to ethical situations encountered in the business world and workplace. Business law consists of specific legal areas that most commonly affect personal and business relationships. 

These students will go on to compete in the national competition in Chicago later this summer.

The board recognized the Seaman High School Boys Basketball team for their 5A State Championship. The Varsity and JV had 19 players on the team helping each other improve throughout the season. The team came together and dominated the state tournament as an 8 seed. The Vikings beat Desoto in the championship game to become 2022 State Champions.

President Remarks

Frank Henderson thanked the community for responding to the online survey and focus groups to help the board identify key characteristics in superintendent candidates. The Kansas Association of School Boards received nearly 900 survey responses from the community. Frank also thanked Phil McKay and Megan Nussbaum for helping the candidates tour the district on their interview days.

    Next 345 Board of Education Meeting

    The next regularly scheduled board meeting will take place on May 9. It is scheduled to start at 6:00 pm.

    Regular board meetings are scheduled on the second Monday of each month at 6:00 pm, with the exception of March, which will be held on the third Monday. Regular meetings may be adjourned to another time and place when necessary. Special meetings may also be scheduled on an as-needed basis. 

    Regular meetings typically take place at the Seaman Education Center. When meeting locations change, notice is sent out to the public and made available online. Board agendas go live on the Friday afternoon prior to the regular board meeting. 

    All regular meetings are streamed live and available on the district's YouTube Channel. A recap of the meeting is also made available through the Board Digest

    Both in-person and digital public comment are accepted at regular board meetings. The public comment agenda item may be found in the meeting agenda
