Three Seaman High School students were national medalists at the National Scholastic Art Competition in New York City. This year students across America submitted nearly 320,000 works of art. 1,917 works were selected from that pool as national award recipients. Of the 1,917 awardees, 16 were from Kansas. Reagan Carter's work titled "Empty Space" was the recipient of an American Vision Medal in addition to a Gold Medal.

This year Seaman High School Athletic Director Steve Bushnell not only supported the establishment of the girls wrestling program at Seaman, but also served as the program’s first head coach on an interim basis until a permanent coach was hired. Mr. Bushnell actively recruited girls to go out for wrestling, helping the roster grow from two to nearly thirty at the start of the 2020-21 season. Bushnell also stepped forward during the COVID-19 season by creating home events to provide opportunities for both boys and girls teams. Additionally, when the Centennial League girls tournament was looking for a host site, Mr. Bushnell jumped at the opportunity and hosted a first-class event.

Steve Bushnell understands the importance of involvement in athletics in the total experience of students at the high school level and the Kansas Wrestling Coaches Association is proud to recognize and honor his dedication and commitment. Congratulations to Steve Bushnell, 2021 KWCA Girls D1 Administrator of the Year!

President Remarks

Tonight I would like to acknowledge one of our own board members, Mr. Frank Henderson. Last week, Mr. Henderson was named the president-elect of the National School Board Association. It has been a privilege to serve alongside him over the past decade and watch his ascension through the local, state, and national organizations where he will take over as NSBA President in April of 2022. This is a huge deal for our school district, our city, and state and we are lucky to have someone as dedicated as Frank serving in our community and dedicating himself to doing what is best for kids. Truly, a remarkable achievement, please help me in congratulating Frank for this well deserved position.
