Winter Weather Awareness

Winter weather is coming and it’s time to prepare for the cold, snow, and ice expected during the winter season in Kansas. Below you can find information on snow days in the Seaman School District.

Dr. Steve Noble, Superintendent of Schools, makes the final decision on snow days. Dr. Noble checks weather maps, forecasts, and works with district staff members to check the roads, district sidewalks and parking lots. He also discusses the possibility of a snow day with other area superintendents. It is a difficult decision, and one that hinges on what is best for student safety.

If the weather is severe enough, the decision to cancel school may be made the night before the snow day. If possible, this will occur in time for the closing to run on the 10 pm news. In many cases, however, the decision is made the morning of the potential snow day. If a snow day is called, the decision is usually made by 5 am.

When the decision is made to call a snow day, weather delay/early release, we want to make sure you're getting the information quickly so that you can make plans for the rest of your day.

Here are our steps for communicating:
  • Media channels are contacted to relay information to the public
  • Websites are updated with a pop-up notification
  • SchoolMessenger (mass messaging service) messages are sent to families & staff. These messages will be sent in all formats to ensure all parties receive the message (email, text, and voice).
  • Social media pages will be updated to reflect our status
Please be sure that your child's school has current contact information for your family in PowerSchool. If you have been receiving emails and texts from SchoolMessenger, then you should be all set. If you have changed phone numbers and/or email addresses, please call your school to update contact info.
